Theora

A free and open source video encoder based on a public domain codec, VP3. This codec is old and is really only designed for special usage cases.

Recommended for:
Very easy encoding experience, decent compression, videos intended to be streamed online, decent encoding speed.

NOT recommended for:
High resolution videos (higher than 1920x1080 is not supported), high color depth/sampling videos (higher than 8-bit/4:2:0 is not supported).

Average Bitrate (1 pass):
Encodes the video in a defined average bitrate (kbits/s). The required bitrate varies on the basis of the resolution of the video, the frame rate, and the colors.

Higher bitrate = higher quality.
Lower bitrate = lower quality.

Constant Quality (1 pass):
Encodes the video using a defined quality value. This option is recommended if you don’t know what bitrate to select or want a more compressed video.

Range: 1-10
Higher value = higher quality
Lower value = lower quality
Recommend value = 7
